One person found a link to an old court case over the name.
I'm surprised that nobody I know has ever heard of it, but the glasses are pretty and nice to use anyway.Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726164724131916224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3896642794207631523.post-3790373553616235822017-01-30T22:45:00.974+00:002017-01-30T22:45:00.974+00:00That looks like a very fine apple cake indeed. I'm very surprised that there was any discrepancy between the recipe on the TV and the one in the book. OK, I'm lying. There always seems to be differences and often quite bizarre differences. You'd almost be tempted to think that professional recipe writers came up with the recipes and produced the books and the celebrity presenters had never seen them before. Of course, that can't possibly be true.

I can't really help with Genete. I have come across a French cocktail called Ginette which is a mix of pastis and gin if memory serves. Not a combo I'm fond of, to be honest. Maybe genete was a combo of genievre and anisette, although that sounds deeply unpleasant to me. Nice glasses, though.Phil in the Kitchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15904292856978631382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3896642794207631523.post-30709395978091394152017-01-28T20:14:22.980+00:002017-01-28T20:14:22.980+00:00I feel like I should be able to smell that cake fr...I feel like I should be able to smell that cake from your photos, haha! I love those sorts of apple cakes with spiced, streusel-y toppings. They always smell so good fresh from the oven.

I'm afraid I can't help with your conundrum as I've never heard of Genete. Well done for scoring a great bargain though!Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07922950133889230965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3896642794207631523.post-31941628793001092872017-01-28T16:00:47.236+00:002017-01-28T16:00:47.236+00:00I can say that Jean gave us a couple of slices of ...I can say that Jean gave us a couple of slices of the apple cake and it was absolutely delicious. We ate ours cold with a cup of tea, but it would also make a lovely light dessert. Thank you, jean, for the cake and the recipe.GaynorBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12971753467966206018noreply@blogger.com
