I've met a fair number of French males who love to do the cooking at home but it does tend to be to impress friends or for special occasions and not so much the everyday quick meals. It's always been possible to buy in a really good meal in any French town from the local shops but I do agree that the supermarkets and the microwave might be changing the way the French eat at home quite significantly.
